Individuals Claiming to Represent NM Public Employees Retirement Association
The New Mexico Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) has received reports that an individual claiming to represent PERA, or an entity with a similar name, has contacted PERA retirees asking to meet with them to discuss their PERA benefits or proposed plan design changes. This individual does not represent PERA.
Member confidentiality is very important to PERA. PERA does not provide member information to private vendors. In addition, PERA employees will never ask to come to a member's home or ask a member to meet them anywhere other than at a PERA office. If a caller claims to represent PERA, ask for their full name, position, and contact information. Then call PERA to verify if that person is an employee. PERA can be contacted at the following telephone numbers: 1-800-342-3422; Santa Fe (505) 476-9300; or Albuquerque (505) 383-6550.
By exercising caution, retirees can protect themselves from unwanted sales calls, investor fraud and identity theft. More information about investor fraud and identity theft can be found on the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department's website at http://www.rld.state.nm.us/ and on the New Mexico Attorney General's web site at http://www.nmag.gov/home.
