Mission
The mission of the Board of the Public Employees Retirement Association is to preserve, protect, and administer the trust to meet its current and future obligations and provide quality services to Association members.
There has been a great deal of media controversy recently regarding return-to-work provisions affecting PERA retirees. PERA wants to clear up misstatements and misinformation about the current statute (NMSA 1978, Section 10-11-8 (C)) governing PERA retirees who return to work for a PERA affiliate.

The 2009 Annual Member Statements and the Retirement Eligibility Statements were mailed the week of November 2, 2009. If you have a concern with your service credit, check with your employer first. PERA has experienced issues with some employers posting incorrect or incomplete earnings and service credit to member accounts. If your employer cannot find a problem, e-mail PERA at pera-memberservices@state.nm.us with a written explanation of the concern, include your name and PERA ID number found on your member statement. If you have not received your Annual Member Statement, PERA may not have your correct address. To view your current address with PERA and to reprint a new Annual Member Statement from PERA's RIO Self Service website, you will need have a user ID and password for the RIO Self Service website. Dear PERA Members,
It's hard to believe that it is already early winter. While the weather has been great in New Mexico, our fund has also been climbing. The fund has rebounded 37.8% since the March lows. Our current balance as of the close on October 19, 2009 was $10.45 billion (continued...) (Posted 10/26/2009)
PERA has received several inquiries regarding the new Normal Retirement Age regulation proposed by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The IRS recently postponed the effective date of the proposed regulation to allow further review. Consequently, the regulation will not be effective for governmental pension plans until January 1, 2011 (continued...). (Posted 10/22/2008)
